Mika, the Girl Lost in Wied Ghomor
Maria, better known locally in L-Imsierah as Mika, was a girl of great beauty. From a young age, she had lost her mother, Pawla, and her father was a heavy drinker who often wandered aimlessly, seemingly unaware of his surroundings.
Mika used to go and pick jasmine flowers from the valley, and she would take them to place in the nearby Sanctuary. However, one day Mika never returned to the village. Her father claimed she had gone to Gozo to visit relatives.

The Spirit of Wied Ghomor
In Wied Ghomor, soft and still,
Mika’s spirit lingers still.
Through the valley, night and day,
Many saw her on their way.
A gentle glow, a fleeting shade,
In the fields and forest glade.
Some would whisper, some would say,
“She walks these paths, she will not stray.”
Her jasmine scent upon the breeze,
Her quiet steps among the trees.
For years she roamed, both near and far,
A shining, silent, guiding star.
Though time has passed, she still remains,
In whispered winds and soft refrains.
Mika’s spirit, pure and bright,
Still walks the valley in the night.
