A New Chapter for Wirt San Ġwann
In December 2024, just as Wirt San Ġwann was facing the difficult decision to close its doors and cease operations, a remarkable initiative emerged from within the community itself. Determined to preserve the cultural and historical legacy of their hometown, three dedicated women from San Ġwann stepped forward to take on the administrative leadership of the organization — breathing new life into its mission and future.
The new committee, made up entirely of passionate and community-driven women, is composed of:
- Ms. Tania Borg, serving as President, who brings both leadership and a deep-rooted passion for local history and community engagement.
- Ms. Silvia Dimech, as Secretary, whose organizational skills and commitment to heritage have already helped streamline operations and communication within the group.
- Ms. Maria Borg, as Treasurer, overseeing the financial health of the organization and ensuring that resources are managed sustainably and transparently.
This change in leadership marks a turning point for Wirt San Ġwann, as it transitions from a period of uncertainty to one of renewal, energy, and forward-looking planning. Their shared vision is clear: to protect and promote the unique historical identity of San Ġwann, raise awareness among residents and younger generations, and ensure that heritage sites — such as Ta’ Ċieda Tower, the old rural chapels, and the natural landscape — are valued and preserved for years to come.
Thanks to their dedication, the organization is once again active, engaging with the public, organizing clean-up events, community talks, and educational outreach. Their work serves not only to protect the physical history of the town but to rekindle civic pride and community spirit.
